چکیده

© 2004 Blackwell Publishing Ltd THE BASIC IDEA Brain responses are recorded using an imaging technique such as fMRI, which allows the repeated measurement of brain activity at hundreds of thousands of points, or voxels, throughout the brain (Fig. 1). Each voxel represents physiological responses from a small anatomical portion of the brain (typically 3 × 3 × 3 mm). The analysis of such data seeks to identify voxel-by-voxel whether any brain regions show a defi nite difference in brain activity. As with any other measurement in clinical science, to reliably establish a difference consideration must be given to the size of any difference relative to its variability. This requires that a statistical test be carried out to assess any differences in brain activity between the two different conditions, rather than just simply subtracting the activity in the two conditions without any consideration of the variability. The computation and visualization of such tests is known as statistical parametric mapping, and the purpose of this article is to explain how it works. HOW TO UNDERSTAND IT

A Short History of Statistical Parametric Mapping in Functional Neuroimaging

The history of human brain mapping is actually much shorter than one might have anticipated on entering the field. The first brain activation studies harnessed the ability to take images of brain function, successively within the same scanning session. This was facilitated by the use of short half-life radio tracers using Positron Emission Tomography (PET). These techniques became available in ...

Hölder continuity of solution maps to a parametric weak vector equilibrium problem

In this paper, by using a new concept of strong convexity, we obtain sufficient conditions for Holder continuity of the solution mapping for a parametric weak vector equilibrium problem in the case where the solution mapping is a general set-valued one. Without strong monotonicity assumptions, the Holder continuity for solution maps to parametric weak vector optimization problems is discussed.

Assessment of the impact of applying attenuation correction on the accuracy of activity recovery in Tc99m-ECD brain SPECT of healthy subject using Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM)

Introduction: Photon attenuation in tissues is the primary physical degrading factor limiting both visual qualitative interpretation and quantitative analysis capabilities of reconstructed Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) images. The aim of present study was to investigate the effect of attenuation correction on the detection of activation foci following statistical analysis w...

Hölder continuity of a parametric variational inequality

‎In this paper‎, ‎we study the Hölder continuity of solution mapping to a parametric variational inequality‎. ‎At first‎, ‎recalling a real-valued gap function of the problem‎, ‎we discuss the Lipschitz continuity of the gap function‎. ‎Then under the strong monotonicity‎, ‎we establish the Hölder continuity of the single-valued solution mapping for the problem‎. ‎Finally‎, ‎we apply these resu...

Analysis of family-wise error rates in statistical parametric mapping using random field theory.

This technical report revisits the analysis of family-wise error rates in statistical parametric mapping-using random field theory-reported in (Eklund et al. []: arXiv 1511.01863). Contrary to the understandable spin that these sorts of analyses attract, a review of their results suggests that they endorse the use of parametric assumptions-and random field theory-in the analysis of functional n...
